Why replace the cord
The sash cord is a vital part of a sash window. Over many years of use the sash cord will wear and snap
The cord and weights that allow the sashes to be correctly held in place are integral to the smooth operation of the sash windows. So in order for the window to function properly a new cord will need to be fitted.
When the cords become frayed or incorrectly tensioned, the sashes can catch, creak or rattle. Cord replacement allows you to have an easy to slide window that is safe and efficient.
Spring balances or sash cords
In recent years, traditional sash window cords have been the cause of several injuries and concerns, due to the cords snapping and the sashes dropping unexpectedly.
To combat this, some modern sash windows have spiral spring balances instead of sash cord and weights. These are made up of a plastic tube and a metal torsion spring. They tend to be safer, and will need to be replaced less often.
Spiral balances do fail over time and need to be replaced in order for the window to function correctly. These sash balances are made up according to the size and weight of a particular sash.
In order for us to supply a suitable replacement we do an initial site visit to take measurements and order the correct size balances.
When new sash cords and spiral balances are fitted we will carry out a service on your window to ensure smooth operation.
